1st Braughing Scout Group

We are an active local group of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We have one Beaver colony (Leopards) and one Cub pack (Puma) that meet in Puckeridge at the Community Centre on a Tuesday evening and another Cub pack (Cheetah) that meets in Braughing on a Wednesday evening. We also have two Scout Troops (Jaguar and Panther) that also meet in Puckeridge at the Community Centre on a Friday night.  We are a co-ed group (ie boys and girls!) and are open  to young people from every faith and background. We also have a Scout and Guide band (the only one in Hertfordshire).

1st Braughing Scout Group is part of Ware District, Hertfordshire County in the United Kingdom (see their news below).

Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.  Click on the "Think you know Scouting?" link on the left to find out what Scouting is like in the 21st Century.

What do Beavers, Cubs and Scouts do?..........lots!

Beaver Scouts (6 yrs - 8 yrs)

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others.  Some Beaver Scout Colonies also organise Sleepovers. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home. They take place in suitable buildings, often Scout centres.

Cub Scouts (8 yrs - 10½)

There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or activities such as canoeing.  Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean you sleeping in a tent and doing loads of fun outdoor activities.

Scouts (10½ - 15½)

Scouting is for young people aged between 10½ and 15½ years who want to make friends and develop their widening interests in way that are both educational and fun - young people who want a break from the usual after school routine of homework, games and watching television.

Our activities are about action and involvement and mean more than just camping. Hiking, rock climbing, gliding, sailing, pioneering, canoeing, parascending, abseiling, putting on shows and exhibitions, motor mechanics, electronics, photography - the list is endless!  Scouts are also given the chance to learn skills in survival, cooking and first aid.
